Trying to market yourself online and grow your business can be a soul sucking journey. One day you’re passionate and full of ideas you’re ready to fire at the world. The next, you’ve lost your sense of self and vision trying to be the “serious” Go-to-Expert. And, seriously questioning whether you are good enough.

When was the last time you had a good side pinching laugh at yourself?

There I was, in the All State Insurance office interviewing for a job. My Sister-In-Law had arranged for me to meet with her former boss. Desperate for the gig and to impress, I transformed myself into “crazy girl”.

You should have seen me, I took a deep breath and decided that the outgoing, intelligent and friendly girl God made me to be, wasn’t good enough for this interview. Nope, in my mind, this job called for a bubbly, giggly, slightly irritating maniac.

I sat down (in character) in  the owner’s office and began to answer his questions as energetically as possible. I could tell by his reaction that my jovial juice was a bit much for him to drink in, but by then, I couldn’t turn it off. LOL

It was like watching a train wreck. Needless to say, I did not get the job. But, I learned some valuable lessons that day.

1. Acting is not my thing 🙂

2 . Changing who you are to appease others robs the world of opportunity to realize their own greatness.

This made me think about how many women webpreneurs have been spooked out of their voice and stripped of their ability to confidently share their knowledge in the market place.   Brilliant women  who’ve allowed the advice of a coach, mentor, friend or family member convince them that who they are and what they want to say is not good enough.

Let me tell you something:

1. Your Vision is Viable: In many ways the very training we invest in to help us move forward can handicap or ability to move at all. Some of the world’s most successful people has doors shut in their face, were told “no” and “you can’t do that. But they, held on to their vision. Don’t let anyone take your vision away from you. NOT EVEN YOU.

2. Nobody does it like you. I had a picture in my head of how an “insurance agent” should act. Don’t ask me where that picture came from. But, I realized I did not have to act like somebody else to do a great job. You are already great at being you. Nobody can beat you at that. So, bring you to the table and the rest will take care of itself.

3. Being YOU is what this world needs. When you are caught up trying to become something you’re not, people that really need to hear from you and experience the solutions you bring to the world, lose. You can do the impossible. But, first master the possible.

I have come a looooong way from that “crazy girl” in the Allstate office trying to giggle her way into a job. I like who I am and I believe that my story and experiences have shaped me into just the right person and place to help someone else. But only, if I step out and let my life be seen and my voice heard.

What life experiences can you laugh at, learn and grow from?
